So I just got back from the ceremony at the Gracie Barra Headquarters in Irvine, CA where I train regularly. In case you don't know a Red/Black belt is almost the highest achievement you can receive in Brazilian JiuJitsu. It takes 32 years of dedicated training and teaching as a black belt to receive such an honor. We had our normal class followed by sparring and then the ceremony. The ceremony was a once and a lifetime event which I will remember forever. There had to be at least 40-50 of Master Carlos' black belts along with all the students who attended. In attendance where such notable names as Renzo Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Roger Gracie and Babalu (who just received his black belt from Master Carlos 2 months ago). It was amazing to see Rickson in person and Renzo has to be one of the funniest and genuinely good people I've ever seen. Roger, Rickson, Renzo, and others all made heartfelt speeches about how Carlos influenced their lives. It was AMAZING!
