Roger Gracie vuelve del retiro para unirse al roster de ONE FC.
Roger Gracie has come out of MMA retirement to fight for ONE FC at light heavyweight, and should be making his debut before the end of 2014.
Gracie confirmed the signing today with Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.
From 2004 to 2010 at the Mundials, Grace won gold in his division and heavier in every single year, and took either gold or silver in the absolutes. He amassed a whopping record of 65-7-1 in both IBJJF and ADCC competitions, and has never been submitted in any fight. He was recently inducted into the IBJJF Hall of Fame.
Gracie made a very successful transition into MMA with a first round submission finish of Ron Waterman at Bodog Fight in 2008. He followed it up in Japan at Sengoku with another first round submission over Yuki Kondo. Gracie made the move to the big time with Strikeforce in 2010. He went 4-1 with the organization, with his only loss being the only finish blemish on his record, KOed by King Mo. His consolation prize was a crisp $80,000 so the night was not a complete failure.
Gracie then signed with the UFC where he took one fight, and lost a contentious decision to Tim Kennedy. Citing that the UFC would not match his deal when his contract was due to be renewed, Gracie stated he was retiring from MMA.
One year later, Roger was approached by ONE FC with an offer he couldn’t refuse, and now another Gracie is set to hop on the Asian promotion’s bandwagon. Before him, Renzo Gracie claimed high respect for ONE FC, spoke at the ONE MMA Summit, and has been at several live events. Gregor Gracie competed thrice at ONE FC, going 2-1.
Now Roger’s entrance shakes up the light heavyweight division which includes Jake Butler, Cristiano Kaminishi, Tatsuya Mizuno and possibly James McSweeney.
