may 30,2013

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) will take place at catch-weight of 152-pounds, on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Four titles will be at stake, with the Canelo staking the WBC, WBA and Ring junior middleweight titles, and Mayweather putting up the WBA "super" title that he won from Miguel Cotto last May.
"Both fighers feel comfortable with that [weight], so it will obviously be for Canelo's WBC and Ring Magazine belts, and his WBA belt, and Floyd's WBA super champion belt at 154. It is going to be for all the belts, all the marbles, and it's going to be for [the] pound-for-pound [status]...who will be the one?," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.

Mayweather is number 1 in the UK. Surprised Mayweather's name isn't coming up on the US trends search.

Many fans have centered their attention on the contracted weight for the junior middleweight clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) and WBC/WBA/Ring champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-0-1, 30KOs), taking place on September 14th and live on Showtime Pay-Per-View from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The two boxers will battle at 152-pounds, two pounds below the junior middleweight limit of 154.
Before the deal got finalized, there were several stories regarding the weight. Mayweather allegedly demanded a weight closer to the welterweight limit of 147, and Canelo wanted their match at 154. There was some concern from Mayweather camp members, as Canelo rehydrates to 170-pounds or more on fight night. In the end the Mexican superstar says both boxers budged from their positions to reach an agreed-upon weight.
"Things are happening as I expected. This is the fight that I wanted, and now I have it. This is for all Mexicans and my fans around the world. The fight is happening at 152 and that's fine. I'll have to work a little harder, but I feel that I can make the weight and I'll still be strong. [To make the fight] I had to give a little [on the weight], and he had to give a little too. It was fair and I feel that both parties are happy. He fought at 154 pounds before, but he wanted [152 for this fight] and I accepted. He gave a little, and I gave in a little, and now we're going to fight," Canelo said.

Canelo:
"It's what I want, the Mayweather fight. That's what we put on the table. I feel more mature and for that I am willing to go down to 150 pounds," said Canelo to Sal Rodriguez. "De la Hoya said he was going to pursue the Mayweather fight [for me]. We are ready for it. It's what people want, for me to fight someone like [Mayweather]."

"I'm not Pacquiao, I want my opponent to be confortable in his weight" Ya ya...

Chepo Reynoso, the manager and trainer for WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs), gives a lot of credit to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer for working day and night to finalize a deal that matches Canelo against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
In a recent article on BoxingScene.com, Canelo stated that both sides budged a little on the weight.
The two sides agreed on a catch-weight of 152-pounds, but Reynoso says it wasn't easy.
Initially, Chepo claims Mayweather wanted a catch-weight of 150-pounds, and Canelo wanted the full junior middleweight limit of 154. Mayweather and Canelo finally agreed to meet in the middle, with both giving up two pounds in weight.
"we are happy with the negotiations, after all, this is what we were looking for. We are ready to face him and remove him from the throne," said Reynoso.
"We had to give up some weight, but we are confident that everything will be fine. Those two pounds that we're sacrificing was a condition to get the Mayweather fight. He wanted 150 pounds and we requested 152, and I think in the end we did well."
"If we did not give up those two pounds, he wouldn't fight. Besides, Mayweather wanted to fight at 147, then 150. Fortunately, Richard Schaefer is a great negotiator. Everyone did their part to get this achieved."

Floyd Quote:"I look at Miguel Cotto as an undefeated fighter because he faced Pacquiao, but Pacquiao fought him at a catch weight. He wasn't the best Miguel Cotto. He was drained. He wasn't hydrated"
