Takeya Mizugaki Meets Urijah Faber At WEC 52
According to MMAWeekly.com, former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber will return to action against Japanese star Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 52 on November 11th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The bantamweights were originally slated to square off at WEC 50 last month, however "The California Kid" was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury.
Although Faber has dropped three of his last five contests, all coming in championship scraps, he remains the organization's most popular and recognizable athlete.
Mizugaki holds a respectable 13-4-2 record, however made quite the splash in his WEC debut as a last-minute replacement to challenge then champ Miguel Torres for the bantamweight crown. Despite dropping a unanimous decision, the Japanese stud won over many stateside fans with his Rocky Balboa-esque performance.
No venue has been rumored for the yet-to-be announced show. However, it's believed Faber/Mizugaki will serve as the card's co-main event. Former bantamweight champion Brian Bowles is expected to face Wagnney Fabiano in Sin City as well.
Brian Bowles Vs. Wagnney Fabiano On Tap For WEC 52
MMAJunkie.com is reporting that former WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles could make his return to action against former featherweight Wagnney Fabiano and that the two will likely square off at the upcoming WEC 52 event. According to MMAJunkie, both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout and are expected to sign bout agreements shortly.
Fighting out of former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin's old gym, The Hardcore Gym in Athens, Georgia, Brian Bowles recently had his eight-fight undefeated streak snapped and his WEC Bantamweight Title taken by current champion Dominick Cruz. Cruz defeated Bowles via TKO (doctor stoppage) in the second round when it was determined that Bowles could no longer continue to fight due to a broken hand. Prior to that engagement, Bowles was 8-0 as a professional fighter and holds notable wins over Marcos Galvao, Damacio Page, and former WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres.
Brazilian grappling specialist Wagnney Fabiano dropped from featherweight to bantamweight in 2010 after suffering an incredible first round submission loss to newcomer Mackens Semerzier in a featherweight bout. Fabiano debuted at bantamweight against Clint Godfrey at the first of this year at WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson where he took home a unanimous decision win. He would follow that up with another unanimous decision victory over Frank Gomez, his most recent performance (which went down at WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus this past June).
WEC 52 will likely take place this November 11th at The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada and is expected to feature the rescheduled matchup between former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber and Takeya Mizugaki in addition to the Bowles-Fabiano match up.
