Bobby Lashley to face Bob Sapp on June 27
Former WWE pro wrestler Bobby Lashley will take on Bob Sapp at a new event on June 27 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseaum in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Lashley has confirmed on his Twitter the fight, which was first reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.
Lashley (2-0) defeated Jason Guida last month at Roy Jones Jr.'s "March Badness" pay-per-view in Pensacola, Florida. In his MMA debut, Lashley won in 41 seconds via doctor stoppage due to a cut from ground and pound strikes. Lashley is a two-time National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) wrestling champion and trains with the American Top Team.
Lashley debuted on Sunday for pro wrestling group TNA Wrestling. He's expected to work on a limited basis as a pro wrestler as he continues to advance his career in MMA.
Sapp (10-3-1) went from an NFL offensive lineman to a superstar kickboxer and MMA fighter in Japan. On New Year's Eve, Sapp returned to Japan and defeated an anime character played by wrestler Akihito Tanaka.
Like Lashley, Sapp has also dabbled in pro wrestling.
The event is a co-promotion between Fight Force international, promotal of local "Blood and Sand" MMA cards in Biloxi and boxing promoter Prize Fight Promotions. The promoters is working on putting the event on pay-per-view.
